       DURATION : 6 MONTHS

       i   Three months theoretical orientation with the help of the course  materials made available by the Academy

       ii  Three months field work for the preparation of a project report as part   fulfillment of the course.

What is Ageing, Theories of Ageing, Microscopic Theories, Changes in Ageing Scenario, Interactions between Biological, Psychological,  Physiological and social processes in Ageing, Double and Triple – Jeopardy Hypothesis – Old age across cultures and time – images of ageing across culturally – social psychology of ageing, etc.

PAPER III  : GERIATRICS CARE AND MODERN MEDICINE

Anatomy – Infectious diseases – Falls and Fractures – Hyper tension, ZDM – Mind over body – depression, Dementia, Palliative Care

PAPER IV : GERIATRIC CARE AND OTHER BRANCHES OF MEDICINE

Homeopathy, Ayurveda and Alternate Medicines, usage of medicines, suggested treatments, etc.

PAPER V  : ENVIRONMENT AND HOUSING FOR THE ELDERLY

Housing & environment, enabling personal abilities – Universal design, housing for the elderly, sheltered dwellings, understanding the design implication of ageing, design factors in housing, concept of life time houses, designing for special needs

PAPER VI : GERIATRIC COUNSELLING & GUIDANCE

Factors contributing to the emergence of counseling, introduction to Basic Principles of Counselling, Effective approaches in counseling, basic counseling techniques, qualities necessary for a counselor, confidentiality, process and skills of addition counseling, therapeutic relationship with the patient, goal setting, etc.

Nutrition in Old age, various types of food habits, diet control , etc.

Various agencies for rehabilitation, how to make a WILL, Shaping the future of health care for Older Adults, etc)

Geropharmacology, Toilet falls, Care of the Dying Patient, Alpha Blockers in the management of Benign Prostatic Hyperplassia of Elderly, Common Ophthalmic Problems in Ageing, Physical Disabilities noticed in the Aged and suggested Exercises

PRACRICAL ORIENTATION  :

Candidates will have to visit institutions for the welfare of the elderly.

      12 PROJECT WORK :

Every candidate will have to submit a dessertation in EnglishLanguage on a relevant topic in the area of Geriatric Care after conducting field studies for a minimum period of three months
